About Kubernetes Managed Services
At this moment, I think Red Hat Openshift is in an excellent position to deliver a turn-key Kubernetes environment to customers. As we know, Kubernetes distribution “per si” is just a part of an operational environment. And there are many K8s distributions in the market, such as: . As we know, Kubernetes distribution “per si” is just a part of an operational environment. And there are many K8s distributions in the market, such as:
· Openshift Container Platform (OCP)
· Rancher Kubernetes Engine (RKE)
· VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG)
· Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS)
· Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
· Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
· Cisco Intersigh Kubernetes Service (IKS)
· Nutanix Karbon (now Nutanix Kubernetes Engine – NKE)
· Mirantis Kubernetes Engine
But to get a consistent and complete DevSecOps platform associated with a CI/CD framework, much more services, components, and integrations are necessary: service mesh, security, image registry, automation, app services, compute, storage, monitoring, authentication, DB Services, logging, networking, backup, DR, and others.
So, it doesn’t make sense for companies to build and maintain their customized cloud-native applications platform. It’s not their core business; these many services’ integration, operations, and support are complex and costly.
Red Hat has a good market share and solid products/services portfolio that can deliver and support a Kubernetes platform to customers in self-managed or managed services options.
For self-managed, there is Red Hat Openshift Platform Plus. For managed services, it’s possible to highlight: ROSA (Red Hat Openshift on AWS), Azure Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud, and Red Hat OpenShift Dedicated.
These managed services are provided by Red Hat Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), including installation, management, maintenance, updates, and monitoring. It is an absolute turnkey application platform.
IMO, Kubernetes Managed Services is what the customers need, and tech players are certainly watchful for it. Let’s see how the market will develop on this topic.
